About Our Purpose

The Howdy Dawg story starts with just a couple of guys named Jon and Ian who love their pups and the mountains in all directions. Hiking around and shredding down is how we spend our winters. Jon brings his pup, Hyla, along whenever he can, her sense of exploration every bit as strong as ours. We've been skiing and snowboarding on mountains across the country for over a decade now, putting plenty of gear through its paces.

Growing up outside Chicago, we knew there was more out there than spending winter cold snaps in -10 degrees with nothing better to do than sled down a little hill on a piece of plastic. Jon played hockey growing up and continued through college and beyond, playing weekly to this day. Ian, on the other hand, grew up around agriculture and has been working in it off and on since his teenage years. Both of these experiences gave us early insight into winter outerwear—whether it was wearing it for long hours on the ice or out feeding cows in the winter wind.

This resulted in plenty of hours outside moving around while in a cold environment, so we have recognized the need for a breathable outer layer that allows you to move your body and expel some heat while still being comfortable in the polar winds present on a rocky mountainside.

After spending a few years in Texas, we yearned for four seasons again. Ian headed up to Montana, and Jon followed later, settling in Utah. That’s where we honed our skills on skis and a snowboard, gaining experience in various terrains and conditions. Summers were spent hiking, while winters were dedicated to chasing snow—venturing as far west as Lake Tahoe and Mt. Ashland in Oregon.

After all that time riding snowy peaks, we came to a conclusion: the best piece of gear to have is a Shredsuit, better known to most as a ski suit. These one-pieces keep your gear close, block out the wind, and keep your body dry all day during intense alpine activities. After wearing other "ski suits" for years, we noticed room for improvement. We dreamed up designs to make the mountain experience even more rad.

Additionally, whenever we tried to get friends from warmer climates into mountain sports, the cost of gear often became a roadblock. We’d often hear, "I want to try skiing or snowboarding, but I don’t want to spend a grand on gear before I even know if I enjoy it." While our answer was always something like, "I’m pretty sure you’ll love it," we understood their hesitation. Asking someone to drop $500+ on just a jacket and pants is a big ask—especially if their current warmest outerwear is a hoodie.

That’s why we spent the last year developing the ultimate ski suit: a one-piece designed to bring the best vibes to the mountain. Whether you're a nature lover, a nostalgiaphile, or just someone looking to bring smiles to the slopes, our suits deliver. They look great, but our focus is on utility first. We want Rocky Mountain newcomers in our suits to have just as incredible an experience in the cold as a professional guide would after 8+ hours of leading snowmobiles through powder fields.

For far too long, the rising cost of lift tickets and gear has made winter sports less accessible. We aim to make a dent in that problem by offering a groovy, all-in-one solution for staying warm and keeping the most important gear close. With a Howdy Dawg Shredsuit, you can enjoy snowy weather as much as your pup does, no matter the conditions.

Thanks for stopping by our site! We hope to see you out there soon, putting edges to powder and rocking a Howdy Dawg Shredsuit bringing grand vibes to the slopes!
